Aku pertama kali mengenal internet 12 tahunan lalu, saat baru menginjak kelas 1 sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Mulanya aku hanya dapat membuat email (yang tidak pernah digunakan hingga beberapa tahun kemudian) serta chatting di MIRC (tapi terbatas dengan kawan-kawan di indonesia saja).

Hingga saat  kelas 3 SMP, aku memiliki sahabat pena (penpals) di Perancis dan Australia (anyway, kalau ditanya bagaimana bisa kenal saya sudah lupa). Kondisi geografis yang tidak memungkinkan membuat kami biasanya berhubungan lewat pos, hingga suatu waktu aku tersadar, heyy i have email !” . Sejak saat itu mulailah kami saling berkirim email, untung saja keluargaku memiliki akses internet dirumah dan aku sudah memiliki email, kalo tidak aku harus ke rental. Saat itu bisa dihitung rental komputer yang menyediakan internet masih bisa dihitung dengan jari keberadaannya di bumi Indonesia ini, jarang sekali ada,  apabila ada pun harganya sangat tidak pas dengan uang jajan anak SMP seperti aku.

Sejak saat itu, sebagai anak dengan pikiran kritis dan taktis (pendapat pribadi sih) saya benar-benar terpukau oleh manfaat dari internet itu sendiri, bener deh internet itu so amazing penting banget, aku bisa berhubungan dengan orang-orang yang jauh disana, hingga ke luar negeri, ga pake lama, biaya yang murah, bisa tatap muka via webcam dan internet bisa membuatku menambah temen lewat berbagai situs jejaring sosial, mulai dari friendster, facebook, MySpace, twitter, etc..

Ditambah lagi banyaknya info yang bisa didapat via internet membantu sekali dalam pencarian bahan buat tugas sekolah atau kuliah. Pengalaman yang paling berkesan adalah saat aku menyusun skripsi, untungnya di rumah ada internet sehingga aku bisa mencari jurnal-jurnal sebagai referensi untuk penelitanku dan tidak perlu keluar rumah (hingga kadang pakai cara “cerdik” supaya bisa mendapatkan jurnal bagus yang berbayar, tapi dengan “internet” aku bisa mendapatkannya secara gratisan). Tak terbayangkan kalau hari ini tidak ada internet, untuk mencari referensi dan jurnal aku harus berputar ke satu perpustakaan ke perpustakaan lainnya dan itu pun belum tentu bahan yang aku inginkan ada. Sangat tidak efisien, boros tenaga, waktu, dan biaya.

Finally…untuuuuuung sekarang ada internet, kalau dulu.. yupp, bayangin aja sendiri!
